Programme Highlights & Speakers
Taylor Lorenz
The Retreat of Online Anonymity
Anonymity has long been considered the foundation of a free internet. Tech journalist Taylor Lorenz highlights how this safe space – currently under increasing pressure under the guise of AI security – is being progressively eroded, and analyzes the consequences of a global crisis in free speech as well as the pressure to use real names.
Paris Marx
The Real Cost of the AI Boom
Paris Marx, host of the podcast Tech Won’t Save Us, takes a look behind the scenes of massive hyperscale data centers. He sheds light on the environmental and social impacts of these infrastructures on local communities and critically examines Silicon Valley’s vision of the future.
C& (Anisa Abeytia & Nan Collymore)
Diversity & Ethics in Datasets
Anisa Abeytia (UNHCR / Center for AI and Digital Policy) and Nan Collymore (author & curator) discuss how digital infrastructures and AI systems must be designed in light of a diverse, globally interconnected world. Using the C& Cyclopedia archive as an example, they demonstrate how archives can be digitized in a way that is representative, traceable, and accessible. Ultimately, the goal is to understand how knowledge was compiled, who created it, and who has the right to interpret it.

The venue
Annenberg Community Beach House
The Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica was once the private estate of silent film star Marion Davies and a popular destination for Hollywood’s elite, who flocked to this “Gold Coast” gem to attend the starlet’s legendary parties. The original 100-room mansion from 1928 no longer stands, but in its footprint is a truly spectacular event venue and community gathering space blending historic Hollywood glamour and modern coastal California style.
